Ryan Tanaka: Composer, Improvisor, Performer, Scholar

News

I'm gearing up most of my efforts right now into going back to school for my doctorate (DMA or PhD) -- although, at this point I've decided that I'm going to focus most of my artistic efforts toward the city of Los Angeles. It has its up and downs, but I do think that the town has a lot of potential to become a vibrant community if enough talents were to settle down here, and I plan to take that route. (Instead of, say, try to catch a break at New York, like a lot of artists do.) Right now UCSD, UCLA, and CalArts looks pretty appealing because it'll let me stay in Los Angeles while still being artistically active within the local arts scene.

The online lesson thing didn't go so well, so I'm shutting that part of the site down. Still offering lessons in person, though -- I think that people tend to learn faster when there's direct interaction anyway, so it's probably for the better. Inquire if interested. (It'll be around 50-75/hr depending on what type of training you might want and how far away you live.)

Check out my new blog of improvised recordings on the right also -- I'm planning on updating it regularly. Free music!

Also, the old list of services, which I'm still doing:

Commissions
For Concert Music [Rates by Meet The Composer]
Solo Piano Recordings [Inquire Within]

Improvised Accompaniment
For Dance, Theater, and Recordings -- [Inquire Within]

Improvised Performances (Concert or Background)
Solo Improvisation [Inquire Within]
A-Tribute Ensemble (Piano Trio -Violin, Piano, Cello) [Inquire Within]
